How to?
Health insurance can be a subject of discussion when you are new in Germany. Everyone in Germany must have a health insurance.
- There are two types of health insurances, private and public.
- When you have a public health insurance, the insurance will (pay for all of your medical expenses it covers) right at the time of need. Public Insurance will be deducted from your account each month whether you use it or not in that month.
- In case of private insurance, at the time of need you pay it by yourself, later the insurance will pay you back.
- For full-time employees, you can have private insurance when you are earning more than 66K per annum. Private insurance may sound cheaper at first, but it is recommended to carefully read all conditions, e.g. if you choose to switch to a public health insurance later.
- You can choose any health insurance that suits you.
- Other than a general health insurance, you can get additional insurances e.g. for dental treatments.
